Vulnerability

Can vulnerability be learned, or is it something actors either have or don't have? If it is something you learned, what has helped you become emotionally available in your work?

Doug Kayne

I think it's not so much learning to be vulnerable, as we're actually born extremely vulnerable. However, we are taught to be stronger and less vulnerable. To hold the cards close to the chest, as it...

I agree. Vulnerability like, self awareness, is something that is learned. I know for me, my biggest acting breakthroughs have come when I just let the scene happen. Stayed present, and reacted to whatever the other actors gave me.

Improv, you're my hero!

For those of you who have been snooping at my various blog posts (especially during the Introduce Yourself Weekends), you would know I am an improv guy. I've been performing improv as a member of one group or another since 1994, and been teaching it in some capacity since 2005. I could talk for hour...

Absolutely. Improv is one of the most useful tools an actor can develop, not simply because it teaches you to be funny, but because it trains you to listen, accept and respond without panicking. What...

Favorite and least favorite thing about being an actor

I love getting to play different roles, living lives I would never get to. Being on stage or set is such a high. My least favorite part is the uncertainty of not knowing when the next job is, sometimes the hustle is more exhausting than the actual job. What about you?

Jason Raymaker

The struggle is real for actors. What I have found is the more you put into it the more you get out of it. It also helps to have a flexible job to help keep food on the table and a roof over your head.

Joshua Young

That used to be a stress of mine, but I have a hack. At the start of every year, double-check with your agent that your headshots are still good enough. If they say yes, put that money toward shooting...

Hey everyone. I wanted to get your thoughts on this from a directing, acting, and PR perspective.

At the very beginning of my career I had a very wise working actor tell me that there will always be someone prettier and younger than you. Don't worry about it. He also said that I was the "girl next door" type. I was so green I barely knew what types were and it was all very helpful.

Carlos Morales

it's all about connections, this is why you see the most horrible films on these platforms and wonder how they got there. Someone had a connection and they kept going with it.

Sam Neill, ‘Jurassic Park’ Star, Dies at 78

Well, this is sad news, the death of Sam Neil.

I’m amazed at his versatility as an actor, for someone who will probably be best remembered as palaeontologists, Doctor Alan Grant in the Jurassic series. However, there was so much more to his career.

Thank you Sam Neil for passing our way.

Interesting perspective on how acting careers work.

Here Josh Brolin talks about the unpredictability about casting and how an acting career can fluctuate so much. I think it is pretty accurate. What do you think based on your experience?
