Centered on a character who appears completely in control on the surface, while everything underneath begins to fracture—blurring the line between psychological breakdown and something more.

Drawn from lived experience, with a focus on pressure, tone, and internal conflict rather than traditional crime structure.

Too many films are made to try to attract an audience they believe is already available. It is one of the reasons many filmmakers make horror films, in competition to scare up the same audience. Others are making films to strive for a new artistic flare. And still others, are trying to make a truly great film.

I, myself, want to make movies that matter; movies that are a movement for positive change. I want to make films that are "solution-based" that inspire, uplift and make the audience feel that anything is possible.

I don't care if I make the greatest film ever made or the most artistic. I want to make important films, those that can change lives and the world around us, for the better.

What kind of films are you wanting to make?

I have two scripts, and I need your help to understand which one is more promising to promote; I have an opportunity to pitch it to a few production companies.

I’ve been watching a lot of indie short films lately, and something I noticed is how much the music shapes the emotional impact especially in slower or dialogue-light scenes.

I’m a producer working mostly on cinematic / emotional sound, and I’ve been experimenting with scoring short scenes to better match pacing and mood.

Hey Stage 32 — I'm Alex, a Houston-based actor and filmmaker with a $22,000 grant secured to produce an original short film targeting Sundance, TIFF, Tribeca and festivals of that caliber.

After more than three decades working across international distribution, production, and now publishing, I’ve seen the entertainment industry from many different angles.

From selling films territory by territory at global markets…

to producing projects…

to helping creators develop stories.

Over time, a few patterns become impossible to ignore.

Here are some of the truths the industry eventually teaches you. Feel free to add more in the comments!

1. A great idea is not enough.

The industry runs on execution, relationships, and timing. Many brilliant ideas never make it to the screen.

2. The math always matters.

Behind every creative decision sits a financial reality: budget, recoupment, market demand.

3. Distribution determines destiny.

A beautifully made film without a distribution strategy can easily disappear.

4. Festivals are not a business model.

They can elevate a project, but they rarely guarantee financial success.

5. Casting is often a financial decision.

Recognizable actors or trending talent can unlock distribution discussions and investor confidence.

6. Relationships build careers more than projects do.

Projects come and go. The people who trust you and believe in you stay.

7. The market never stops changing.

What worked ten years ago—or even five—or even last Film Market may not work today.

8. Intellectual property has become incredibly valuable.

Books, articles, podcasts, and true stories increasingly drive development because they bring narrative depth and audience interest.

9. Ego has destroyed more projects than lack of talent.

I’ve seen films fall apart because of pride, politics, or power struggles, or just plain ignorance.

10. Reputation compounds over time.

In a relationship-driven industry, your name eventually becomes one of your most valuable assets.

Despite all of this, I still believe deeply in storytelling.

Because every once in a while, the right story finds the right collaborators at the right moment.

And when that happens, something extraordinary can still be created.

Which of these truths has had the biggest impact on how you approach producing, and what experience taught you that lesson?

How important is a pitch deck? I have one for one of my screenplays, and my agent wants to do one on another, but they are expensive. How effective are pitch decks for producers? What kind of pitch would you prefer?

No one is saying what the terms are going to be, outside of a 4 year agreement. But it appears that the WGA at least has been able to come to an agreement.

If you had to build a project today, inspired by this real-time event, what would you package?

My take:

A prestige limited series blending psychological thriller and grounded sci-fi. When the Artemis II crew returns, one astronaut’s memory contains a 12‑second gap that shouldn’t exist. NASA wants a clean narrative for the public. The astronaut wants the truth. The world wants a hero. The series becomes a slow-burn unraveling of perception, politics, and the cost of being the face of human exploration.

Budget: mid-to-high.

Target: streamers hungry for elevated sci-fi with emotional depth.

Comparable titles: For All Mankind, Severance, Arrival.
