Making Movies That Matter

Too many films are made to try to attract an audience they believe is already available. It is one of the reasons many filmmakers make horror films, in competition to scare up the same audience. Others are making films to strive for a new artistic flare. And still others, are trying to make a truly...

I believe storytelling is one of the great pastimes of our species. To that end, I think telling an original story in an interesting way is a filmmaker's primary duty. You have little control over what an audience make take away from it, but you can try to entertain them at least.

Debra Holland

Eugene, I love what you posted. I believe that's a creed for living life--doing what matters and can make a difference to others. Good luck, for I'll want to watch your movies!

One of my favorite quotes from a famous director "No one has more power than the one that speaks to you for 2 hours alone in the dark." I want to, and am, making films that are entertaining enough that people can get a strong message in a palatable and fun way.

Eugene Mandelcorn

Thank you for your kind words. We try to make our films entertaining and get the message across at the same time. For Debra and those who would like to see one of our films, we have one in distributio...

I would recommend instead that you enter them into screenwriting competitions and let impartial judges be your guide. Good luck.

Kseniia Zhuravleva

Rob Tobin yes that is a good idea, but I want to pitch this month. I d love to send the new script to competitions though

The people that sell movies know what is in demand. And that changes all the time. It's better to write as much content as possible and just be ready for the right time.

Quick Question for Directors Music in Your Short Films

I’ve been watching a lot of indie short films lately, and something I noticed is how much the music shapes the emotional impact especially in slower or dialogue-light scenes.

I’m curious:

How are you currently handling music in your projects?

Working with a composer

Using stock music

Doing it yourself
