Mission: Impossible (1996) Rescore – Final Version
After sharing the behind-the-scenes process yesterday, I've now finished my rescore of this Mission: Impossible (1996) scene.
I made several changes to improve the overall flow and dramatic impact. Some of the updates include refining the thematic material, adjusting the orchestration, improving the pacing around key hit points, and polishing the mix to better support the action on screen.
One thing this project reinforced is just how challenging it is to rescore a film with such a strong musical identity. Lalo Schifrin's iconic theme is deeply associated with the franchise, so the goal wasn't to recreate or compete with it, but to explore a different musical perspective while still serving the scene.
Rescoring continues to be one of my favorite ways to study film music. It pushes me to think about storytelling, timing, emotion, and how music can completely reshape the audience's experience of a scene.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. What worked well? Is there anything you would have approached differently?
