We're at it again! One of my scripts has just been picked up by an EP with a long history of raising funds and making films. More than 30 at last count, plus a successful stint in television. While there are never any guarantees, and I typically don't believe people until the check clears, I think this one has a better-than-good shot of coming together. But here's the deal... the budget stays at SAG Moderate Low Budget, and my company is the production company of record. That means we're on the hook for development.
Because the script is not weather—or season-dependent, the target for production is March 2026. So, between now and then, I thought it would be fun to post weekly on our progress, from contracts to fundraising to locations and casting. It would be a virtual diary of our trudging the happy road to production.
If you want to come along for the ride, check in every Wednesday (or Thursday... maybe Tuesday... OK... once a week) for a progress report. I'll divluge the good, not so good, and downright boring road of development for our next feature film "Music Therapy" (working title only since one of my partners doesn't like it). SEE... there's already juicy conflict!
Until then, do you have any fun stories about indie development? Leave your comments below!
Until (sometime) next week... Mike

This is such a fantastic idea, Michael Fitzer! Thank you for pulling back the curtain and taking us along for the ride. Real-time insights into indie development are invaluable, especially for those navigating their own projects under SAG Moderate Low Budget constraints. I’ll definitely be tuning in each week to follow your journey.
Looking forward to the next update, keep ‘em coming!
