About Lindsay

Lindsay Thompson (she/her) is a Director of Photography and visual storyteller based in Greensboro, North Carolina. With a deep love for emotionally resonant imagery, her work blends natural light with psychologically textured compositions, often balancing bold visual depth with minimalist restraint. For Lindsay, every frame is an opportunity to tell the truth of a moment — every frame is a painting, not just in what it shows, but in how it feels. She was drawn to the magic of movies as early as six years old, originally captivated by special effects. Like many creatives raised in environments that favored conventional paths, Lindsay was steered away from the arts and toward more “practical” careers. That detour didn’t last. In college, she found her way back through photography — developing film negatives and hand-printing black-and-white enlargements in the darkroom of her chosen art school. That tactile connection to light and story became the foundation of her voice as a. Lindsay has shot a wide variety of narrative and documentary work, including the short films Atlas Falling (2025) and Table Chatter (2025), the internationally distributed documentary Fly High: Story of the Disc Dog (2019), and Ann Wilson: In Focus (2017), a portrait of the legendary rock icon. She continues to develop visually distinctive work through in-development short films I Saw You Last and Until Life Do Us Part, as well as the narrative features Haven and Groove. Her visual style is rooted in emotional clarity — a respect for stillness, subtlety, and the internal lives of characters. Whether she’s lighting a psychological thriller or a hopeful drama, Lindsay’s priority is always serving the tone of the story with authenticity and intention. In 2024, she completed the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Masterclass, an experience that deepened her understanding of how to translate emotion into visual language. As a result, she continues to challenge herself to take creative risks while maintaining a collaborative spirit on set. Having worked extensively on independent productions, Lindsay has worn many hats — not only as a director of photography, but also as a producer, operator, and educator. She believes mentorship is foundational to the future of the industry. On every project, she aims to create an environment where emerging artists feel empowered to learn, experiment, and discover their voices behind the lens. Looking forward, Lindsay’s dream is to build a fully functional sound stage in North Carolina — a space that serves studio and indie productions alike, as well as local film schools through educational partnerships. She sees this as an extension of her larger mission: using storytelling to elevate others, cultivate meaningful connections, and expand access to the craft she’s fought hard to be part of.
Career Goals

My long-term goals are twofold: – To become a member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) and contribute meaningfully to the art and craft of visual storytelling. – To open and operate a sound stage and studio space in Greensboro, NC—a creative hub that supports both indie and studio-level productions, while also serving as an educational space for emerging filmmakers. At the core of both dreams is a deep belief in craft, community, and making filmmaking more accessible for the next generation of storytellers.
