About Tosin

Tosin Coker is a multiple award-winning Nigerian-American filmmaker. His thesis film, ‘Doorways’, starring Emmy Award-winner Diahnna Nicole Baxter, premiered on Aspire Network television, screened at the California African American Museum as part of the Black Stories Matter Series, and won the top award at AudFest, beating out over 4,000 films.

He directed Ebony Life Television’s ‘On the Real’, a television series sponsored by Samsung Nigeria, currently streaming on Amazon Prime Africa. His first feature film, ‘Lara and the Beat’, now streaming on Netflix, won awards at the Pan African Film Festival and the Oakland International Film Festival, and was nominated in seven categories at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Tosin’s Coming-of-age feature screenplay 'FemI' reached the second round of the Sundance Development track, currently stands in the top 1% of screenplays on the Blacklist with multiple 8+ recommendations. He is a Semifinalist at the 2024 Stowe Story Labs Fellowship, and a Semifinalist for the 2025 Roadmap Writers Coletta Preacely-Garcia Diversity Fellowship. Tosin is also a 2025 Sundance Cultural impact residency finalist, and a finalist for the 2025 Stowe Story Lab Fellowship.

In recognition of his achievements, Tosin was named amongst Diversity in Cannes Top 10 Filmmakers of the Decade, selected based on his body of work, approach to filmmaking, and his commitment to challenging stereotypes to positively shape the perception of marginalized people globally through his stories.

Tosin holds a bachelor’s degree in media arts and Animation and received his MFA in Motion Picture & Television.
He is currently developing a slate of content with a focus on underrepresented voices from the African diaspora and indigenous Africans.
