Born in San José, Costa Rica, and raised in the U.S. after immigrating in 1985, Alejandro’s journey into cinematography began with a fascination for light—the way it sculpts emotion, shapes stories, and turns the ordinary into something cinematic. Inspired by the works of Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Edward Weston, he developed an eye for striking composition and raw visual storytelling, transitioning from still photography to motion pictures.
After graduating from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, he built his career in Los Angeles, rising from camera assistant to award-winning cinematographer. His work spans global brands—Oracle, Microsoft, Toyota, Ford, Fenty, Ralph Lauren, American Express, Disney, HBO, Warner Bros, NBC/Universal—and icons like John Travolta, Rihanna, and Halle Berry. His imagery has been featured at LAX’s Tom Bradley International Terminal (Moment Factory/LAX) and American Cinematographer Magazine.
His film Slipping Into Darkness won Best Film at the Official Latino Film and Arts Festival, earning a spot on MAX/HBO. In 2023, he was a finalist in the Commercial Directors Diversity Program (CDDP), a joint initiative by the AICP and DGA recognizing visionary filmmakers in commercial storytelling.
Alejandro doesn’t just capture images—he builds worlds, weaving light and movement into immersive, emotionally charged narratives. Every frame he crafts is an invitation—to see, to feel, to experience cinema at its most visceral.
