About Erfan
Erfan Shafei is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Performing Arts from Islamic Azad University, Tehran Central Branch. His thesis on Harold Pinter’s dialogue writing reflects his deep engagement with post-structuralist theory and dramaturgy. An experienced director, screenwriter, and educator, Erfan has contributed to numerous acclaimed projects, including assisting in productions like Hamlet and Macbeth at Tehran’s City Theatre.
His creative portfolio spans internationally recognised films such as Le Clochard, which earned selections at prestigious festivals like ECU and Orzazate. Erfan’s innovative storytelling and technical expertise extend to light design, commercial direction, and screenwriting for short films and animations. His current projects explore philosophical and cultural themes, such as Nietzschean ethics in Macbeth adaptations and Brechtian techniques in Kiarostami's works.
Fluent in English, Kurdish, Persian, French, and Turkish, Erfan bridges cultural narratives through global cinema, focusing on transnational storytelling, feminist theory, and philosophical discourse in film. He is also skilled in photography, videography, and Adobe Creative Suite, with a proven track record of balancing creative endeavours with academic excellence and collaborative leadership.
