30 Minutes With NOBODY WANTS THIS writer, Mahtub Zare Mochanloo

You'll spend 30 minutes online with Mahtub Zare Mochanloo who is currently a Staff Writer on Season 2 of Netflix's hit comedy series NOBODY WANTS THIS. She is a first-generation Iranian-American born to a single, immigrant mother in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University where she studied political science and financial economics. Mahtub previously participated in the Disney ABC TV Writing Program and before that, worked at BallenStudios as a Coordinating Producer.

Hi Sydney S. I am so happy to have this opportunity. I'm looking forward to joining the session and spending 30 minutes online with Mahtub! It’s inspiring to see her journey from the Disney ABC TV Writing Program to working on Nobody Wants This, and I’m excited to hear her insights. Thanks also to Stage 32 for making it happen :)

Mary And Rich Chamberlin

Totally agree! We're ready to write and market our Rom-Com, this is perfect timing!

My question for Mahtub: What advice would you give to emerging writers trying to break into comedy television?

Anthony McBride

I'm working on my very first romantic comedy now. How much of your comedy comes from personal experience?

Joe Ellis

Can you take us through your experience in a writer's room? How does it work?

Joy Frelinghuysen

Hi Mahtub, what do you wish most emerging writers knew about getting staffed on a show THAT THEY CLEARLY DON'T KNOW?

Rachael Ashe

Do you have any tips about how you like to bring theme into the episodes?

Jamie Wilson

Is there anything that you wish you would've known before getting staffed in a writer's room?

Mary And Rich Chamberlin

For a recent TV Pilot Contest (dramedy) winner struggling still to get noticed, how can one get noticed by a producer for Rom-Com (our dream would be a Hallmark Channel project) Thanks!

Wendy Jones

How do you write? Is it story and then humour or does it all come out as one?

Joe Ellis

Do you have any Do's and Dont's?

Joy Frelinghuysen

Also, best comedy writing book, please. Thanks.

Sydney S

Thank you to all who attended today! What a rocking AMA :)
