What Have You Learned About Screenwriting Lately?

Feeling blessed to continue learning from the amazing people on Stage 32 (lounges, blogs, webinars, labs…). There are valuable insights & perspectives all over this site!

I’m on set of a feature film & am amazed at the stamina of our UPM, directors, & actors (heck I’ve found energy I didn’t realize I had). It’s a learning experience with a weight-loss program built in!

Endless days (some starting at 4:00 am or lasting until 2:30 am) and company moves have exposed tireless determination to complete this project. This crew keeps the momentum and (sometimes forces) a positive attitude when an actor backs out, rain becomes a prop, a piece of equipment malfunctions, or the flu downs an actor & rearranges our schedule. Filmmaking is a lesson in adaptability.

I’ve learned that writing is what I truly love, but to write a screenplay for production – it doesn’t hurt to watch a script unfold in the hands of professionals.

From now on, if writing an indie film script – I’ll consider stunts, complicated props, and company moves!

Have you learned something that now seems obvious?

Please share your tips & tricks for writing a script that has indie potential.

I haven't progressed to where you are at so I don't have that kind of experience. I do try and keep all of the above in mind when writing a script. Keep telling us your experiences - for most of us that's the dream is those next steps. Thank you Debbie!

Thank you Lauren Hackney! I'm learning so much. Like - you never have enough PAs on set... and - have a backup for everything & everyone.
