Introduce Yourself : New guy, pfft by Anthony Cloutier

Anthony Cloutier

New guy, pfft

Hi Guys,

I'm the author of the Empire Forge fantasy series, published by Thieves Guild Publishing, and a career economist with a passion for storytelling that blends myth, legacy, and psychological complexity. I’m currently developing Hex, a supernatural thriller and dark academia drama in the vein of Supernatural meets Lovecraft Country—or Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which I love), without the camp.

Set at an elite New England liberal arts college, Hex follows Noah Longfellow, a professor of Occult Studies burdened with a supernatural gift: he can see demonic influence in others. He assists local law enforcement with cases involving the occult while uncovering a dark family legacy—his ancestors made a Faustian pact with a demon who still walks among them, now disguised as Maplewood College's own Dean Trumbull. Noah’s struggle is to solve mysteries and free his bloodline from a century-old curse.

I'm currently seeking a writing collaborator to help bring this story to life for television—someone with a love for worldbuilding, slow-burn tension, and moral gray areas.

Hi Anthony Cloutier , this sounds like it could be a very compelling series. I'm open to chatting about the writing collaboration if it's a paid one. Feel free to reach out. Thank you!

Anthony Cloutier

Thanks, unfortunately it’s not paid.

Hi Anthony Cloutier, welcome to Stage 32! I’m Ashley Renee Smith, Head of Community here, and I’m so glad you introduced yourself.

Your project sounds right up my alley! Psychological complexity, cursed legacy, academia, occult crime-solving? Yes, please. HEX has all the makings of a deeply compelling supernatural thriller, and the comparison to Lovecraft Country and Buffy (sans camp) is a great touchstone for tone and audience. The setting at a liberal arts college is such fertile ground for slow-burn tension and layered mythology.

Hello Anthony! I'm brand new here, this is my first comment and I hope you have a sense of humor so I don't get banned, but I couldn't help but laugh at thinking your description of yourself as a "career economist with a passion for storytelling that blends myth, legacy, and psychological complexity," if taken out of context of this writers' forum, would seem to mean something completely different. I think I've worked with a few folks like that in the past LOL...

Anthony Cloutier

Thanks Dave, I like to think I have a good sense of humor, especially when it comes to myself. I don't think most economists would disagree with that sentence out or in context. We are like the sports reporters, we have no idea what's going to happen, but after the game (closing bell) act like we expected the outcome all along.
