I'm a natural history film/tv editor from Bristol, England. I've slipped into screenwriting fairly organically and have just completed (after 18 months in scraps of time before and after work) my first feature screenplay. I've entered into a few contests and now I'm in the thick of my second. Looking forward to some conversations.

Hey, David Warner! Welcome to Stage 32! Okay, just confirming - natural history would be like National Geographic, right? I actually started in the TV industry with true crime docu-dramas, which get grouped into NatGeo channels.
Congrats on your first feature screenplay! Is this the SciFi you have listed on your longline? Where are you hoping to film this? Also, are you preparing a pitch for it as well? It's great to get contest accolades, but if you want to get it made or sold, I say work on your verbal and written pitches.
OH! OMG, we so rarely get to talk with experienced editors here, I'd LOVE for you to check out the Post-Production Lounge: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/post_production

Hi Karen,
Lovely to speak with you, and thanks for your message.
Yes, I work with Nat Geo a lot — in fact, I’ve just finished co-editing Ocean with David Attenborough, which is getting a theatrical release early next month. Red carpet’s on the 6th! But the BBC has been my bread and butter for the past 30 years.
If I get a chance, I’ll definitely check out the Post Lounge thingy.
As for my first screenplay — yes, it’s the one attached to my profile: Elixir. I didn’t write it thinking it would get made (it’d probably be too expensive), but more as a test for myself — to see if I could actually write something decent and maybe get a bit of external validation along the way!

Hey David, welcome. You're from my old neck of the woods. What's the screenplay about?

Hey Justin. You know Wells? Love it here in Hot Fuzz lanbd. My screenplay... It's a period romantacy (I believe that's a kind of genre now?!). Best way to describe it is prob the logline - Obsessed with finding a cure for the plague, a grieving 17th-century scientist discovers a witch’s elixir of immortality, only to learn that eternal life is - quite literally - a fate worse than death. Entered it into contest now in the thick of my second. How about you Justin?

Hey David, yes, I know Wells very well. Worked at The Cathedral School back in the day. Your screenplay sounds intriguing. How often do things we think we want turn out to be what we really don't. Good luck with the contest. I'm working as a freelance composer and have successfully done so for a little over ten years. Always on the look out for new contacts and exciting projects.

Not sure if this responds to Justin or Brenda or both. Still getting the hang of this platform. Thank you Brenda. To Justin - small world. My boys are both at the Cathedral School. Well, one's left now but the other in the thick of his A Levels. Do you have a music library? I can often get music into my edits if it fits. Generally I use Extreme or Boost - so sick of ANW. I'm cutting Blue Planet 3 currently so it's specially composed but would be good to know regardless. What screenplays are you working on? Bit of a leap from composing...
