Anything Goes : Hey Lord by Wyman Brent

Wyman Brent

Hey Lord

Hey Lord is a soulful, slightly gritty alternative pop-rock song that imagines God coming down to Earth to see what humanity has done with His creation. Disguised in a cheap polyester suit and accompanied by Gabriel, He wanders into a nightclub expecting the unexpected—and discovers something rather different. As He watches, listens, and takes in the strange spectacle of human behavior, God begins to wonder if perhaps He didn’t get it wrong after all. With jangly guitars, Hammond organ, warm female vocals, and the irresistible refrain “Hey Lord... hey Lord... hey hey hey,” this playful, irreverent song mixes humor, curiosity, and unexpected warmth.

Pat Alexander

Hey Wyman Brent great to hear from you! What inspired you to create Hey Lord?

Wyman Brent

Pat Alexander, how are you doing? I was inspired by All of Us from Joan Osborne. I put my own twist on the idea of God being on Earth. Wrote the song in less than five minutes.

Beverly Thompson

Isn’t the song, One of Us? And yes, if so, it’s a great idea.

Wyman Brent

Beverly Thompson, I did take inspiration from One of Us by Joan Osborne. I put my own spin onto the idea. Did you have a chance to listen?
