Voting for THE PRINCE OF EGYPT to advance. For me it's the masterclass in scale vs intimacy — a biblical epic that still lands because of one brother relationship, plus music as story. As I'm developing my own royal escape story AZURA: The Royal Escape, I'm studying how Egypt uses score to carry duty vs identity. El Dorado is untouchable for chemistry/comedy though — Miguel and Tulio are found family goals.

Prince of Egypt. Sweeping, majestic landscapes and a heroes journey that is undeniably rich and multilayered. The background music keeps you grounded in action and elevates the movie. It is a film that is timeless.

THE PRINCE OF EGYPT is an unquestionable masterpiece, and I want that on the record before I say anything else.
But I'm going with THE ROAD TO EL DORADO, because rewatchability has to count for something in a tournament like this. I put it on again a couple of weeks ago and it holds up completely. It's so funny, so well made, and so endlessly quotable. Miguel and Tulio have the kind of chemistry you can't design, and the whole thing moves with a looseness that most animated features are too careful to attempt.
PRINCE OF EGYPT is the film I admire more. EL DORADO is the film I actually reach for.

Ashley Renée Smith That’s a great point about rewatchability. The Prince of Egypt is the film I admire more, but El Dorado may be the one that’s easier to throw on again and again. I hadn’t really considered that distinction when I made the matchup. Thanks for jumping in!

The Road to El Dorado - characters/relationships over spectacle every time. I still quote The Emperor's New Groove, and it's just a series of gags supporting two fantastic "buddy" relationships.

Having seen both of them for the first time a couple months ago... The Road to El Dorado because I love Kenneth Branagh's performance lol
