I’ve decided to put aside pitching for awhile and try approaching using script read and 30 min calls instead. I need to know some executives who look for animated features and have connections at Disney or it’s subsidiaries.
Hey, Mark Kelly. That's great. I did a script read and 30 min call, and it helped me make my feature script better. It's a live-action script though. Reach out to the Success Team at success@stage32.com. Geoff and his team can help you connect with executives.
Hey Mark, it’s a smart move to pivot toward script reads and direct calls to build those relationships. While my current focus is on a high-concept sci-fi pilot, I've found that Stage 32's 'Executive Search' feature is great for filtering for Disney-adjacent managers. Have you had a chance to look at the 'Animation' category under the Stage 32 script services lately? They often have executives from Disney and DreamWorks doing consultations.
I'm with Mark Kelly on needing to meet with the developers and executives who understand my heartfelt, positive animation TV shows. Disney is my go-to plan for making it happen. It's the only studio that accepts heartfelt animations and provides heart & family values to these that would match my concepts. Give my regards to Geoff and his team as well. I wouldn't want to meet with Netflix or Paramount or any other studios that only care for profited screenplays. I wrote stories by hard-work, integrity, and heart.
Hey Mark Kelly! You're right that some projects are better suited for pitch sessions while others benefit more from consultations (and animation can fall into a unique category.)
As Evan Anglin discussed in the Writers' Room, animation has a much narrower target market than live-action: there are fewer buyers, and they follow very strict mandates (preschool age ranges, STEM requirements, educational value, etc.).
This makes the path to success more specific and nuanced. We're seeing more and more success stories come from consultations rather than pitch sessions because executives have more time to get under the hood of your project, understand your vision, and provide detailed guidance on what's working and what needs adjustment to meet those strict buyer criteria.
For animation specifically, I'd recommend booking a consultation with one of these executives who specialize in the space:
Evan Anglin (Zero Gravity Management, Animation) – You saw from the Writers' Room Q&A how insightful he is about character development and animation
Alison Mann (Fourth Wall Animation)
Clayton Conroy (UTA, Animation)
Ryan Christians (LEGO Group)
Daniel Kendrick (DC Group)
Our Success Team can send you direct links to each of these consultations. Just email us at success@stage32.com and let us know which executives you're most interested in connecting with, or if you'd like recommendations based on your specific project. I'll have the team reach out as well with suggestions.
