Anything Goes : Like Minded Individuals by Mark Simmons

Like Minded Individuals

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, this is just me letting off my frustration.

I have been on stage32 for the last year, while I find it helpful in the blogs and free classes they offer, I'm frustrated in that I can't afforded to participate in having my script read by executives, even the ones that charge $35 to pitch or $45 to read the first 10 pages, I'm disabled and on a fixed income, between what I get and what my wife makes there never seems to have enough left for even those and there is no way I can afforded the $200 to $500. Even to do QWA's you have to pay a monthly charge.

Don't get me wrong I think, Stage32 offers a great service, and I understand why they charge; they need to pay people and make money and that's great and I'm glad they are able to. I'm just frustrated that they don't offer something for those of us, like me, that can't get our scripts in front of Executives. I have been lucky in that I was able to get the first 10 pages read twice, with money that was gift to me, back when I first started.

I believe there are a lot of writers out there that don't have the funds to participate in all the services that Stage32 offers and that is disappointing. I'm sure there are a lot of amazing scripts by writers that are using stage32 but can't afford to pay to have their scripts read

being in my sixties and having worked in the industry for over 25 years, 15 of those years in Hollywood, i miss when you could get your script read and not have to pay for the privilege.

Again, I do not begrudge stage32 in any way and I think they offer a very valuable service. I just wish it worked for all of us.

Hey Mark, this is Suzanne from the Stage 32 team. I just wanted to let you know I moved your post from Acting to Anything Goes, as it fits much better there. Let me know if you have any questions, and all the best to you!

Mark Simmons

Thank you,

Suzanne Bronson

Hi Mark Simmons I wanted to let you know, that Stage 32 offers a free month of the WR and there is a AMA going on now.

Mark Simmons

Thank you

Darrell Pennington

Mark Simmons it can be frustrating BUT it doesn't have to be. Just as in scripts, life is all about perspective and the ability to interact with so many creatives and view so many videos was an absolute wellspring of new access for me when I joined last August. The Pursuit of Happyness does a great job of showing the frustration you are suggesting and the possibilities that exist. Just like in nearly every single pursuit that I can think of, more resources enhances the pursuit of that illusive artifact, but the fact that the pursuit exists with almost no resources required is a pretty phenomenal opportunity and I would (I do) work those resources HARD!!!

Mark Simmons

Thank you for your input Darrell,

I agree, there are a lot of resources you can look at but if you want to get your script in front of someone you need to pay for the privilege, again I applaud Stage32 on what it is doing and I understand why they charge unfortunately there are writers who can’t afford to get in front of an Executive.

Mark Simmons

Talking to others always helps. And I appreciate your feedback.

Mark Simmons, I get where you’re coming from. It can feel frustrating when access to opportunities depends on being able to pay for them.

At the same time, I think there’s still value in building connections and improving the script through communities like this, even without the paid services.

Michael Dukumor

am from Nigeria, the fees are much, I tried signing up but the fee is much, no one have been my scripts, when am a big director, l will create a app, we will charge but less, getting your movie script read shouldn’t cost this much, what if your movie is not worth all the money, Hollywood should be happy after millions of movies people still have ideas to share
