Acting : I’m in the lab by Ponce Deleon

I’m in the lab

Hi fam, I just wanted to share this still image from a lighting test I did in preparation for a series of self tapes I’ll be filming in the coming of months. So much of the process of an artist is lonely and invisible. There may be moments where you’re uncertain if any of what you’re doing is meaningful. I find in those moments that’s where the real clarity happens. The reality is; we’re either going to do this or we’re not. Sometimes we have to allow ourselves to just be in the moment and let things unfold.

So my question for the community is…How do you process moments like this and what do you do to overcome them?

I try not to think about those moments, Ponce Deleon. I like to focus on my projects instead.

Ponce Deleon great pic, really depicts the experience of lonely uncertainty well. I can resonate. It's hard, i'm not going to lie. Different things work at different times. For me it can be as simple as going for a walk in nature, doing some yoga, or listening to a pod cast or interview of a creative who I admire and who has gotten through those periods and come out the other side. Basically anything that helps me to connect to my soul's truth which is that creativity is my path so I have no choice but to keep following it, even when i can't see what's next. After all, all we need to know is the next step. Hope the self-tapes go well. I"m planning some too.

Thanks for sharing this, Ponce Deleon, I love the honesty in your post. You’re absolutely right that so much of the process is invisible and can feel isolating, but those quiet, uncertain moments are often where the deepest breakthroughs happen.

For me, I’ve found that when I hit those stretches of doubt or waiting, it helps to lean into small, tangible actions, even if it’s just practicing a monologue, journaling, or connecting with another creative for a quick chat. It keeps the energy moving forward, even when results feel far away.

Your lighting test is a great reminder that even the prep work matters; it’s part of the craft.

For anyone feeling stuck creatively, I highly recommend THE ARTIST'S WAY by Julia Cameron.

Alexandra Stevens Thank you. That’s exactly” what do as I well. I must admit I’ve gotten away from it though since coming to L.A. I’m always on the go. I do make time for moments of stillness though, they’re much less than before. I need to go deeper into my rituals again. There’s something about city life that impacts you inevitably.

Ashley Renee Smith I appreciate you. That’s amazing. I actually did one of those recently. I connected with a filmmaker friend from Argentina. Moments like that help alleviate a lot of the weight of progress. Having someone in your corner to chat with at a moments notice even if only about creativity is very therapeutic.

Hi Ponce Deleon, by the way a great pic. Is kind of hard to explain in simple example. As every one has defferent ways to handle the situation. Some do sport exercises, some take a walk in the woods. To catch up some ideas how to patch up the situation for some it helps. Anyway wish you all the best.
