We are seeking a composer who can help establish the musical language of the film and the larger Neon Tide world. The score will draw from cinematic electronic, synthwave, atmospheric, and contemporary action-scoring influences, while remaining character- and story-driven rather than functioning simply as retro pastiche. The film requires music capable of moving between kinetic action, menace, melancholy, intimacy, and large-scale cinematic moments. Strong thematic instincts and an ability to develop recognizable musical identities and recurring motifs are especially valued. The composer will collaborate closely with the director and sound team during preproduction and postproduction. The engagement will begin with screenplay and visual-reference review and early discussion of themes, instrumentation, tone, and the overall musical architecture of the film. The consultant will work with the director to refine the film’s visual language, shot design, framing, camera movement, action coverage, and overall storyboard strategy. The engagement begins October 5, 2026, with remote screenplay and visual-reference review. The consultant must be available to attend an in-person Creative Conference on Long Island, NY, on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Subsequent collaboration will primarily be remote, with the engagement anticipated to continue through approximately November 16. The consultant will review the director’s detailed text storyboards and provide cinematography/DP feedback and technical/creative markup. That input will be incorporated into the final integrated storyboards used to guide production. Strong visual storytelling instincts are more important than equipment ownership. String Theory

String Theory is a 7-minute short film, based on the Asian mythology of the Red Thread of Fate, currently in the final stage of post-production. We are now looking for an original score that will help give romantic but dramatic element to the film. Logline: A young girl bound to her soulmate by a red string journeys through the stages of her life, learning she was never to be with her soulmate in this lifetime. The story: Told across eight scenes and roughly 25 years, the film follows Katie from age five to thirty as a red woollen string tied loosely to her little finger leads her through fleeting encounters, friendships, heartbreaks and everyday life. As a child she locks eyes with a boy, Ethan, across a busy street; the string appears moments later and quietly guides her from that day forward. It is sometimes taut, sometimes slack, but always present: through the playground, school-yard rejection, a countryside hike, a drunken night out, a stressful office job, and a Pilates class — until it finally leads her, as an adult, to Ethan's grave. There, the string goes loose and snaps. She grieves, then smiles: the film closes on the idea that the two of them will find each other again in another life. Theme: Destiny shaped by life's circumstances — a story of soulmates across a lifetime. The film is elegant, lyrical and restrained: built on moments and feeling rather than dialogue, using space, silence and music to carry the passage of time and emotion. Visually it is shot in black and white, with the red string as the only accent of colour — still, composed frames with slow dolly-ins and natural lighting. Why strings: Music carries a disproportionate share of the storytelling in this film — there is almost no dialogue, so the score is doing much of the emotional work across eight time periods and 25 years in under 8 minutes. We're looking specifically for a string-led score (cello, violin, and similar) that can be as delicate or as aching as the string itself: a single sustained line or motif that can stretch, tighten and loosen the way the red thread does on screen, running from childhood wonder through adolescent awkwardness, youthful romance, adult disappointment, and finally quiet acceptance and grief. What we are looking for: An original score for the full run time (approx. 7–8 minutes), string-based (cello/violin core, open to a small ensemble). A central musical motif or theme (the "red string" theme) that can recur and evolve across the eight scenes/life stages, reflecting the string's tightness, slackness and emotional weight in each. Cues that track tonal shifts scene to scene: childhood wonder, playground joy, adolescent embarrassment, hopeful adventure, drunken abandon, workplace stress, quiet reckoning, and finally grief/release at the grave. Stems/final mix delivered to specification for the edit. Available: the short film, full script, and the film's look book (mythology, logline, vision, theme & tone, characters and visual style). Music references can be discussed. Project status: The film is shot and in the final stage of the edit. We are now at the point of needing music, so we are looking for a composer who can turn around a score within the post-production timeline.
