David Lafka

I’ve loved storytelling since I wrote my first movie script into an exercise book at the age of 8. As an adult I thought the way this passion could manifest was by directing live-action movies, so I went to film school, focused on screenwriting, and later I did a lot of on-set work. I also co-founded and managed a small film production company, where I learned a lot about production and managing clients’ expectations. As a freelancer, I have been deeply involved in both the creative and business side of filmmaking.

Coming from the filmmaking industry, I worked extensively with Constantine Entertainment on crafting well-structured 40 min-long stories through 100+ episodes of different television shows. In the last 5 years at Digic Pictures, as director of multiple divisions, I have been supporting other directors' and art directors' visions on CG-animated trailers and cinematic cutscenes, produced for AAA video games.

Now, I am working on Digic's IP's. My responsibilities include finding source materials that can be turned into animation content. We handle the acquisitions of the IP's and seek out talents to attach to the projects. We manage all the creative development processes regarding DIGIC’s own IP’s. My job can also require working on pitch decks and helping raise funds for development projects. In addition, we also have producer responsibilities on the proof of concept films regarding the studio's own IP's.

As a passion project, I've launched a podcast in 2021. In every episode I am talking about the art of storytelling with storytellers from different fields - novelists, filmmakers, comic artists, theatre directors, game developers, stand-up comedians, improv coaches, journalists, communication trainers, brand managers or other podcasters. The slogan is: "A good story can be found everywhere". :)
