Series: When political ineptitude and economic meltdown send the United States into its second civil war, a writing professor who has lost everything uses the plot of a student's protest novel to establish a system of prison camps -- the American Gulag -- to punish those who have brought the country to ruin. Set in the near future at a time when the country is beset by presidential ineptitude, political deadlock, and economic meltdown, the show will be a kind of post-apocalyptic drama, much like Fear the Walking Dead. Only whereas Fear uses a zombie apocalypse to test its characters, Gulag will imagine a populist revolution that leads to the formation of a Soviet-style gulag across the heartland of a fractured United States.
