XANNY'S AND THE QUEST FOR SOUR PATCH KIDS
By Tyler Schultz

GENRE: Drama, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A troubled young man, haunted by addiction and regret, embarks on a surreal, candy-fueled odyssey through a gas station where talking snacks and monstrous Sour Patch Kids force him to confront his inner demons and the love he lost.

SYNOPSIS:

Otis, a 27-year-old man in a pink hoodie, stands in a gas station, paralyzed by indecision in front of the candy aisle. As he debates between Starburst, Snickers, and Reese’s—who all speak to him in a chaotic chorus—he’s interrupted by Julia, a gas station employee with a mysterious past. Suddenly, the store descends into a surreal nightmare: life-sized Sour Patch Kids swarm the station like zombies, and Otis is thrust into a psychedelic chase for survival.

Guided by a Green Sour Patch Kid, Otis navigates a warped reality filled with slushy floods, liquefying floors, and cosmic freefalls. Eventually, he awakens in his living room, surrounded by paramedics after an overdose. As he slips in and out of consciousness, Otis reflects on his isolation and self-destruction.

In a final loop, he returns to the gas station—this time in a car, preparing to meet Julia. Their conversation reveals a shared history and emotional depth, as Julia confesses she left a man she loved due to his addiction—for the sake of her child. Otis, now revealed to be that man, stands silently as Julia walks away, leaving him alone once more in front of the candy aisle.
