About Phoenix

Phoenix Black is on the ‘ Top 25 Screenwriters To Watch' list by Network ISA (USA). Phoenix, a former aidworker, became a single foster mom during the pandemic. She is the daughter of one of Australia’s first dozen immigrants of color and is based in Sydney.

Phoenix writes genre benders about personal chaos and adventure, at the intersection of racism, identity and loss, told from her perspective as a woman of color with a disability.

She is a final Draft Big Break Top 5 finalist and has placed at Austin Film Festival, PAGE Awards and ScreenCraft. Phoenix studied novel and playwriting. Her Master in Public Health led to working for Oxfam and United Nations in war zones and disasters.

Her features include FATHER TRINITY, a drama psychological horror about masculinity, racism and loss and the dangers of repeating our parents’ relationship pattern.

Her family fantasy drama feature KEANU REEVES IS MY MUSE, MY SON IS A DRAGON, is inspired by her muse, Keanu Reeves, and her foster son, who thinks he is a dragon. Neither of them does the dishes.

Unique traits: Top 25 Screenwriters To Watch list (Network ISA). High tolerance for chaos. Doggedly optimistic.
