About Kathrin

Born in 1984 in East Germany I was thrown over a fence to West Germany in early 1989 - not knowing the wall would fall some months later. We moved through Germany, Austria and Switzerland, following my parents career opportunities as doctors. I was not supposed to become a creative, were not allowed to visit art school. So I went into dentistry first. And soon enough evolved creative skills at night. I mean, the good thing about the internet - it gives you access to education.

First, I became a ghost writer for biographies and stories based on real incidents and gave up my job in the dentistry. That way I got to know actors. One day an actor friend of mine, Prashant Jaiswal, said: Wouldn't you get a camera and make an interview with me and spend a week with me for youtube? Well, I borrowed the semi-professional camera of a friend and did so. His life was so active, I lost 4 kg body weight in that week. When I worked on the edit - my first edit ever - a TV Channel called me. They were interested in that little video. So I spent night and day, learning the basics of editing, to give them a professional result. They took it. And I was in love with filmmaking.

After I experienced in a painful way, that filmmaking can be really expensive, I went to Berlin, studying the basics of camera, editing, project management and media management, as well as screenwriting. Since the second semester my teachers connected me to jobs. So I did a photo session about LA major Eric Garcetti in Berlin, made a video about the World Peace Night in Cannes by the Jackson Family Foundation, and gave a workshop to BMW fleet customer advisors in visual communication. Ever since I'm earning my daily money as producer and director for industrial film / commercials but also in collaboration with other film production companies, creating movies for cinema.

My personal focus now is on creating feature films based on real incidents or legends. Just loving hybrids of reality and fiction for giving the audience access to certain emotions, inspiration or even hope.

I have a voice. Film is the most beautiful way of communication, I can imagine.

    Missing A Beat (WT) (2013 - 2023)
Film by Mercurious Media (DE/CH) / Kathrin Phoenix (Documentary and Family) Producer/Director/Writer - filming / post production - This documentary film project accompanies children, born with just half the heart, becoming young adults. It's a very rare heart disease (ca. 3000 cases worldwide). In the 80s Prof. Dr. med. Francis Fontan found a surgery technic to let let survive. It evolved ever since. Still most affected parents don't know anything about this disease and make decisions driven by fear: Abortions up until the 25s week of pregnancy or letting the new born baby die after birth are the consequences. This documentary shows those children that got the chance to live, becoming young adults with this heart disease. Their parents. Their doctors. And what we can do as society to support different born children. But it also shows potential parents, that they have a value as human beings - alive. Different people are critical mirrors, important for a healthy, self reflective society. More informations: contact@mercurious-media.com

Film by Douglas Wolfsperger Filmproduktion (DE) / Berlin (Documentary) Junior Producer / Subtitle Editor - published - The arthouse cinema "Scala" in Lake Constance inspired Douglas Wolfsperger since his childhood: of course, he became a filmmaker himself. Now this pearl of culture is in danger, cause the city prefers another (10th) drug store for shopping tourists from Switzerland instead. Will the cinema lovers win that conflict? This cinema documentary movie won the "FILM BEAVER" at filmfestival Biberach/DE. It shows what happens everywhere around the globe: We sacrifice our cultural identity for commercial interests.
