In pre-historic times (Reagan was Prez), I wrote, produced, directed, lit and shot television commercials - Acura of Boston and other auto dealerships. Then the economy crashed, and after much famine, deprivation, and relocation, I once again got work writing, producing, directing, and lighting and shooting...wait for it...television commercials. And light industrials. This time for a large regional cable company.
This lasted until the cable company in question made it clear that they no longer wanted to run a production house.
Then I edited news. Oh, boy. After that, I went back to being a full-time musician. I had begun my professional life in the recording studio and I thought Iβd finish it there.
But the lure of film β making complete artistic statements β was too strong. I began to think of what I could do with a childhood fascination - puppets β and film. That brings us up to date.
I now own a pretty complete, film, photo, video, and recording studio(s?) and have begun some personal work (two mini-docs and a longer doc, some puppet films, etc.). Thatβs why Iβm here.
Itβs been over fifty years since I started in the βmediaβ world. Iβve seen the birth and death of Cinefex. I remember when non-linear editing was a twinkle in the eyes of only the youngest and most visionary of film people. I started in 16mm and now Iβm using digital cinema cameras. What a ride.
But so much for an old fartβs remembrances. Iβve come here to Stage 32 to network and take advantage of the educational opportunities. No matter how much Iβve learned, I find thereβs always something new you need to know to be current. How about that?
And who knows, some time I just might write a real bio. I did mention I was a writer, didnβt I?
