I practice my lifelong love of filmmaking in amiskwacîwâskahikan, Treaty 6 territory (Edmonton). The deepest goal of my work is to help foster a more just and loving world through artfully told stories that tell the truth and inspire those who take them in. I draw inspiration from everywhere: friends, strangers, family, nature, history, poetry dance, comics, comedy, and, of course, movies. My nearest and dearest filmmakers include Andrea Arnold, Terrence Malick, Ingmar Bergman, Allan King, Sarah Polley, and Andrei Tarkovsky. Themes I have explored in my work include community in unlikely places, culture clash, intersectionality, dystopia, and love in uncertain times. My favourite thing about filmmaking is that its the ultimate team sport: a group of people with diverse skills and ways of being working together toward a common goal. It is one of the most tangible experiences of real community one can have. The relationships that I've made with my moviemaking teammates remain some of the deepest friendships in my life.
