About Kim

Chicago native Kim L. Collier earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing with a minor in Creative Writing from Iowa State University; then hightailed it to Los Angeles where she hit the ground running.

She was accepted into the prestigious Guy Hank Screenwriting Program sponsored by Bill Cosby. That same year, Ms. Collier won the Organization of Black Screenwriting Award for her comedy spec, Living Single.

Ms. Collier was one of only nine writers (out of over 8000 applicants) in the highly competitive ABC/Disney Writing Fellowship to earn a berth in this venerable program. She was then accepted into the equally esteemed Warner Bros. Comedy Writing Program. Shortly after that she won a staff writer job on the CW series Girlfriends, in which she completed one season.

Ms. Collier wrote her first novel, My Man’s Best Friend, under her pen name K. Elle Collier. Soon after, she released book 2, Kai’s Aftermath and book 3, Alana Bites Back to complete the trilogy.

Her My Man’s Best Friend trilogy quickly became an Amazon bestseller in the following categories: African American Multicultural and Women’s fiction, selling over 150,000 copies and gaining a large and loyal following.

Following that she released a new series titled Pretty Lives Ugly Truths. Books 1-4 are currently available on Amazon, Nook and Smash word.

In 2017 Ms. Collier created “Brown Girls Who Write” @BrownGirlsWhoWrite an Instagram platform to promote, encourage and unite minority women who write. Currently her platform has 47k followers and growing.
