When a recently promoted tech CEO discovers she must settle sexual harassment allegations against her former boss by female staff at the company, she grapples with her inner demons and darkest secrets in her quest to uncover the truth – about her company, and herself.
SYNOPSIS:
Tabitha Larsen, an ambitious, middle-aged executive, is driven by one goal: to become CEO of Gideon Communications, a Silicon Valley tech darling. As a raised Catholic, she feels guilty about an abortion she had early in her career to avoid becoming a mother and getting off the “fast track” – a secret that haunts her every day, and which towers large over her strained relationships with husband Norm and teenage stepdaughter Claire.
When Zach, Tabitha’s boss/mentor, suddenly decides to step down, and make Tabitha CEO, she is ecstatic; however, as she investigates a series of sexual harassment allegations by female staff against Zach, she discovers she was not only manipulated by Zach to take on the job, but that she has her own sexual trauma from the past she has repressed all these years. During an intense therapist session, she learns she was raped by her former lover, Manny, and that the baby she aborted was a result of the rape.
As Tabitha comes to terms with her trauma, it galvanizes her to expose the truth about the toxic culture at Gideon. Convinced she has enough evidence to have Zach fired, she makes her case to the Board, but Tabitha ends up getting fired instead. Dejected, Tabitha tries to take her own life (she has aquaphobia, a deep fear of water from a childhood drowning accident), but Claire rescues her, and she along with boyfriend, Justin, help Tabitha expose Zach’s criminal behavior at a major trade show, resulting in his arrest.
In the end, Tabitha charts her own path outside the corporate world – by learning to forgive herself, conquer her fears, and take risks, she can finally be the kind of role model and mother she has always wanted to be for Claire and other young women like her.
