GENTRIFIED
By Aaron Braxton

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

A gay White male couple move into an all-Black neighborhood and invite their new neighbors to their adopted Black daughter’s first elementary school science fair.

SYNOPSIS:

Tight-laced Robert and his neurotic husband Michael, have just renovated and moved into, what was once an old craftsman house, in a predominantly African American neighborhood. Bent on quickly getting to know their new neighbors; Jackson, Elayne, Jason and Nefertiti, they decide to host their adopted African American daughter's first elementary school science fair where they unwittingly spark a delightful clash of cultures, forge unexpected friendships and challenge stereotypes in the process.

Jackson, his somewhat overbearing Jamaican wife Elayne, and their “girl-crazy,” teenage, transgendered son, Justin, who was an academic star at the same elementary school, oblige to attend. However, Jackson is “low key,” leery of his new White neighbors and what he regards as their subliminal cultural insensitivity.

Meet Jason, the brother of the one and only Jackson, and his wife Nefertiti – they've got more drama in their neighborhood than a soap opera on a skateboard. Their eldest daughter, Aliyah, turns their driveway into a secret rendezvous for her older boyfriend, turning his beat-up van into the 'Love Wagon' (much to Nefertiti's dismay – that van's driving her crazy). Meanwhile, their middle son, the gullible Andre, is desperately trying not to be the family's invisible man. And don't forget the youngest, Jayda, who's convinced she's living with a bunch of extraterrestrial beings and decides to play mediator to her family’s psychosis.

All families embark on this hilarious take of what it means to be individuals and families in an ever-changing, developing, new characterized community. It’s a current inquiry on cultural commentary whereby tackling real societal issues involving the highly contested concerns of gentrification and urban renewal in humorous ways people on both sides can relate to. Get ready for a neighborhood

where love, laughter, and acceptance triumph in the face of diversity, proving that families come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
