GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

Haunted by visions and consumed by grief, a mother spirals after her son's death. Will she find solace, or will addiction and hallucinations shatter her family? Dive into BROKEN, a gripping screenplay of loss, love, and the fight for sanity.

SYNOPSIS:

At opening, Cynthia speaks with her 17-year-old son, Brandon. It’s their birthday and while the mood is solemn, Cynthia tries very hard to be upbeat.

Suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Cynthia shamelessly torments herself and her family in an effort to rectify her deeply embedded physical and emotional grief. While the audience becomes immersed in scenes involving the relationship between Cynthia and Brandon, it is discovered that Brandon is a manifestation of her psychosis.

Misunderstanding of the severity of PTSD leads Cynthia to rationalize her need for help as a character flaw. She believes her turmoil is a justifiable punishment from God and conjuring Brandon is a way to protects her sanity while slowly unraveling her relationships and health.

At the latter half of the film, Cynthia realizes that relying on family and faith for support should not be her only option. Therefore, in an effort to salvage her mental and physical health, she decides to let Brandon go.

Ultimately as Cynthia begins to accept her situation as part of life’s painful, accidental, circumstances, she realizes the true path to regaining some semblance of happiness and resiliency is absolute forgiveness.
