Abubakar Mwenda is a multifaceted professional in the media, entertainment, and performing arts. With a career spanning Scriptwriting, producing, voice-overs, acting, directing, storytelling, Filmmaking, and cultural performance, his passion for storytelling is evident. Abubakar’s acclaimed works include his play “Footprints on Me,” an official selection at the 2022 Cinema Lab Residency in Colombia, and “I’m Radical,” featured at the 2024 Toronto Wide-Screen Film& Music Video Festival, adding to his over 50 stage productions.
Abubakar’s directorial and production credits include over 20 short films, such as “Ghetto Hustler,” “Rat a Baby Race,” and “Midnight Sleepers,” which featured at numerous film festivals. Abubakar has also contributed to popular TV series like Faithless, Selina, and Makutano Junction. He’s also earned accolades as an actor in films like Nairobi Half-Life, From a Whisper, Mission to Rescue, and Subira. His Screenwriting excellence is showcased in TV series, including Makutano Junction and The Team. “Chini ya Mnazi,” "Maria", and “Sarabi.”
Abubakar’s experience includes creating, scripting, directing, and voicing local and international radio
dramas. He also served as the English voice dubbing director for Netflix’s Series Sakho and Mangane. He
facilitated the 2024 KITFest “Sauti za Boma”.A countrywide audio play and storytelling project. Abubakar is a cohort of the 2024 Great Lakes Creative Producers' Lab and 2025 Sundance Collab - Audio storytelling intensive masterclass. Abubakar is known for his visionary and detail-oriented approach; he excels as an independent creator and a collaborative team player.
