Ssentongo Sinani – Award-Winning Ugandan Filmmaker & Visionary Storyteller and I'm a life time student of cinema
Ssentongo Sinani is a celebrated Ugandan filmmaker, producer, director, and screenwriter known for his powerful storytelling and socially impactful films. With nearly two decades in the industry, he has established himself as a force in African cinema, using film as a tool for change, advocacy, and cultural preservation.
Born and raised in Kampala, Uganda, I began my career in 2006 as an actor with Luluna Film Production before expanding my expertise to directing, producing, and cinematography. In my career, I have appeared in 25 films, including Tembele, Beneath Beauty, Ruthless, The Passenger, My Love From Another Land, Janani, Kimote, Bella, EI CUADERNO DE SARA and Test OF Time tv series, Sanyu tv series, Urban Life tv series, JDC tv series. In addition to acting, I also Directed 8 Films, including The Posho Hunt, Falsely Accused, Christmas Spirit and Dog City, and Produced 7 Films and written 8 films. In 2016, I founded Sinan No Film Production, a company dedicated to producing compelling films that shed light on critical social issues, from migration and poverty to corruption and child exploitation.
His notable works include Ghetto Exodus (2016), STAY (2016), and Bread Winner (2018), all of which have received international recognition, including nominations and awards at the Uganda film festival, Gulu international film festival 2018, lake international pan African film festival 2019, cinema of nations 2021, hip hop film festival Kenya 2021, Rwanda film festival 2019, New vision film award 2023, midsouth black film festival and other global platforms. My films are known for their raw authenticity, emotional depth, and ability to inspire social change.
Beyond filmmaking, I also mentor to emerging filmmakers, advocating for the growth of Uganda’s film industry. My mission is to amplify African voices, tell untold stories, and position Ugandan cinema on the global stage.
