A UCLA graduate from the Nurse Practitioner program worked with Kaiser Permanente for over thirty years. She specialized in Adult, Pediatric Medicine and administration. She was the administrator of a large rural out-patient clinic for twenty-six years in Lancaster, California. In retirement worked as an adjunct professor for California State University Bakersfield and Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California. A Viet Nam veteran served with U.S. Army Reserve Corps after active duty retiring after twenty-nine years as Lt. Colonel.
Born in Pennsylvania she took dancing lessons with Gene Kelly's sister, Louise, continuing to study ballet and tap dancing into her twenties. She performed at the Ivar Theatre, Hollywood, California in the Gershwin's production of "Girl Crazy" and danced with the Boogie Woogie Mamas for ten years in the antelope Valley. She attended several graduate studies in fiction and non-fiction writing at UCLA. She began writing short stories, published five books. Her latest, a memoir, titled "My Heart's Journey" during the pandemic. Joan resides near Palm Springs, California, plays golf, gardens and travels in her Rialta R.V. with her rescue dog during summer months. She's a member of the Palm Springs Writer's Guild and Screenwriters Guild.
