SYNOPSIS:
Holey Moley is a six part British comedy that throws the audience neck deep into the enigmatic and eccentric fictional village of Rambleybottom, and all those who resides there. Life revolves around the village’s Parish church and graveyard, which is under threat by a big developer determined to stop at nothing, including murder - to get their hands on the land. Holey Moley promises both heartwarming and thought-provoking narrative, reflecting on the themes of resilience, and redemption. The series will explore the complexities of life, friendship, community, and the pursuit of justice, all while maintaining a entertaining and witty tone. Holey Moley is a world brim full of characters that have secrets, are corrupt, are hopeless romantics, and there is even an ex-headmistress turned wannabe drug dealer, who secretly has a ‘grow on’ in the church’s crypt! These are characters who would be completely lost outside of this tiny village, so the village’s survival also means - their survival. In the pilot episode we meet jaded journalist Megan Warner as she walks in on her husband Michael's latest infidelity. With her two resentful teenage daughters in tow, she seeks refuge in her childhood haven of Rambleybottom. Megan's homecoming propels her into a space of unresolved grief for her brother Adam, and the remnants of past betrayals, notably from her teenage lover Emma Feilding. Megan is faced with a lukewarm welcome from Dorothy, the church warden, who like the other residents is well aware of the circumstances in which Adam died and Megan’s part in it. Meanwhile, across the village, Emma who has fully embraced her sexuality is in the process of giving the village’s Vicar CPR who has had a heart attacked during one of their “sessions”. This feels like common place in Emma’s hectic life - she is very much the main character in her story. The scene is set for the two women to reunite but this will have to wait. As, Megan is visited by Sir Bertram Molesworth (Bertie), a trusted ally from her teenage years. Megan finally reunites with someone she cares about. However, Bertie’s visit is one of need, and he begs her to use her journalist network to look into Reg Barringer, the village’s local councillor. Bertie is convinced that Reg is rotten to the core, and is using unlawful measures to slowly take over land in the village. After a recent and aggressive confrontation, Bertie feels that Reg now has his eyes set on the Parish church and the graveyard, which through an ancient ancestry deal is owned by Bertie. Unbeknownst to Megan, this will be the last time she will see Bertie, who. disappears in the dead of that night. Somewhere in the graveyard, a plan is being hatched and a body is being buried out of sight. Is Reg Barringer inching closer to getting his hands on the land that the graveyard stands on? Or, will Megan get to the truth in time to save the village and find Bertie? Series 1 breakdown: Episode 2: "Grave Mistakes" Megan reports Bertie as a missing person and with their last conversation still fresh in her mind, she decides to investigate a suspiciously smug Reg Barringer, who soon realises that Megan is going to be more than just a thorn in his side. Episode 3: "Baptism by Fire" It’s Megan’s first week at the local newspaper and she probes deeper into Reg Barrimger’s corrupt endeavours, inching closer to discovering what happened the night Bertie went missing. Episode 4: "Echoes of the Past" Megan's investigative journey into Barringer’s dealings intensifies, unearthing potential connections to the village's land and its future. She is left mournful as she realises that those buried in the graveyard, like her brother Adam, will be lost forever unless she stops Reg who is now close to getting the deeds to the Church and graveyard without Bertie’s rejection. Knowing that Megan is close to discovering the truth, Reg puts a deadly plan together to stop Megan in her tracks. However, the arrival of Tod Harrington, the third - injects a new mystery into Bertie’s disappearance and does not go unnoticed by the villages singletons. Episode 5: "Undercurrents" Whilst at a local parish meeting, bored Emma wonders off during the meeting’s break and accidentally overhears Reg discussing his plan for the Church and graveyard. With this information Emma decides to go to Megan, giving the two women a chance to face their past but also work together. Episode 6: "Legacy Unveiled" The village faces its darkest hour as the proposed development of the churchyard is hours away from being approved. Megan and the residents must race against the clock to prove that Barringer has received the deeds unlawfully and has no right to sale the land, as well as having Bertie’s blood on his hands.
