SYNOPSIS:

Luckyville, GA was a thriving, predominantly black town in the early 1940’s. The town's leadership consisted of two white men, Mayor Elbert Welch and Chief Moon. These two men make a deal with Governor Cunningham, the governor of Georgia, to redevelop Luckyville, GA by building a lake over the town. Mayor Welch tells the townspeople that they must relocate and offers them a small portion of the money the governor has given him to make it happen. At the last minute, Mayor Welch changes his mind and instead executes an even more sinister plan… He has the people of Luckyville, GA massacred. Men, women, and children are slaughtered and buried in a mass grave that the lake is eventually built over.

Fast forward 50 years, Mayor Welch is old in age and living in a nursing home. He dies under peculiar circumstances which causes an investigation to ensue. In the meanwhile, his granddaughter, Bridgette, and his grandson, Grayson, leave Nashville, TN to settle their grandfather’s affairs in Luckyville, GA. They have not been to the town of Luckyville since a “freak accident” took place on the lake involving Bridgette when she was younger. When they arrive in Luckyville, the siblings notice that the black townspeople are treating them in an oddly rude manner.

Upon arrival at the nursing home, Bridgette is notified by their family’s attorney, Ms. Rose, that they had inherited their grandfather’s house. They arrive at their grandfather’s house and notice there are no mirrors or faucets in the house. The grandchildren decide to fix the house up and make it livable for Grayson since he is known for smooching off of his sister. Bridgette asks her boyfriend in Atlanta, Ash, to come up and help them with the project.

After Ash arrives, he also notices how the black townspeople are treating Bridgette differently. Bridgette and Grayson are seeing ghostly images and having odd encounters involving water in the house. As time progresses, they are learning more about the town’s horrific history and the role their grandfather played in it. They decide that they no longer want to stay in their grandfather’s house due to the strange occurrences that have taken place as well as the uneasy feeling they were getting from the town overall. This decision proves to come too late for Grayson as he ultimately meets his demise in his grandfather’s house.

Bridgette realizes she has to do something to break the curse on the lake. She does what she thinks is best to end the horrific curse that started with the actions of her grandfather.
