Kira Leinonen is a producer with more than 15 years of experience across documentary, narrative and branded content. During her decade in China, she was instrumental in a range of projects, from environmental documentaries with Greenpeace East Asia and the UK's Channel 4 to international feature co-productions such as Ning Hao's Crazy Alien.
Since returning to the US, she has continued to focus on stories that dig deep into the human experience. Her documentary work includes features such as Untapped: Closing America's Opportunity Gap (Netflix) and To End All War: Oppenheimer & The Atomic Bomb (Peacock), which earned two 2025 News & Documentary Emmy nominations. Most recently, she produced the short Killing Jar, which premiered at Tribeca in 2025 with the Rising Voices Initiative Season 5 cohort.
Kira is a member of the Women in Film, the International Documentary Association, Video Consortium, and a member of both the Producing branch and Documentary branch of the Television Academy (ATAS and NATAS).
She is fluent in English, Mandarin, and German, and retains a nostalgic grasp of French, and looks forward to hearing from you in whichever language you speak!
