The incessant hankering of Americans to migrate west for profit and prosperity also brought with it, people who had a strong desire to find a place where they had the freedom to be themselves: in short, people in search of a better life. A true American virtue if ever one was, and Gays & Lesbians were no exception. Queer culture and it's history,is riddled with discrimination, suppression and despair; but also triumph and human spirit. And out of all of it emerged a unique identity and culture. Their efforts at reconciliation are cut short when Tommy's truck dies and they are forced to try and walk 17 miles out of the desert. Producer Gay Latino L.A.: Coming of Age is a documentary following the lives of three young gay Latino men who are searching for their identity as they deal with issues of family, machismo, religion, culture, and living in LA. Sharing their journey with us are Alejandro "Alex" Aldana an undocumented immigrant hipster from Mexico, Brian Pacheco a Salvadoran activist and Berkeley graduate, and Carlos Gomez a Mexican American from South Central Los Angeles who wants to get away from the gang life.
