About Leah

Leah Welch co-wrote James Franco's project, Evil Days; her script, Homewood, won semifinalist for the Screenwriters Colony (2017); her feature-length drama, Olissa, with Emmy-winning director/producer Dustin Morrow is slated for production in late 2017, and her short film, Augury, premiered at the British Film Institute. She wrote the documentary structure for the award-winning film, Price of Honor, that succeeded in getting Yaser Said on the F.B.I.’s Top Ten Most Wanted list. She’s set for her directorial debut on the documentary, Femme Fatale, that explores female serial killers currently behind bars and is being distributed by Life is My Movie Entertainment.

Her work as an investigative journalist with the Innocence Institute helped in the exoneration of David Munchinski who had spent twenty-five years of his life in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

She earned her BA in art and English at Muskingum University, her MFA in creative writing with a concentration in poetry at Chatham University, and her MA in investigative journalism from Point Park University. She’s previously been published in The New York Times, LitBreak Magazine, ZO Magazine, and Uppagus, among others. She earned a spot on Benjamin Percy’s, Advanced Fiction Writing Workshop at Aspen Summer Words 2012. Her writing earned the Beulah Brooks Brown award in poetry, and she won the East Coast College poetry awards two years in a row.

Leah lives in Los Angeles, CA where she writes poetry, plays, short stories, and screenplays, and is seeking representation.
