2015 Great Schooner Race

Finished the filming for WINDJAMMER: Race The Wind with the filming of the 2015 Great Schooner Race. Many of the tall ships in this race are over 100 years old. What a great weekend of filming!

Doug Mills Shoot Maine Studios Rockland, Maine Camden Maine- Spent some time shooting at Curtis Island in Camden Maine this weekend. Camden is the birthplace of the windjammer back in the mid 1930's. The curtis island Lighthouse was established in 1835, the schooner Lewis R. French was built in 1871. Camden and Rockland on the middle coast of Maine have such a deep nautical history. There are now only five surviving two-masted coasting schooners in the United States Lewis R. French (1871),Stephen Taber (1871); Governor Stone (1877); Grace Bailey (1882); and Mercantile (1916). Taber's significance lies in several areas: for her design and association with maritime history, including the fact that she is one of three remaining two-masted centerboard cargo schooners; as an example of the preservation of such vessels by adaptive use; and through maintaining a number of maritime-related skills.
