In the mid-1980s Thomas founded one of the most unusual theaters in the world. The first and still only children's theater in Germany and we are not talking about the usual christmas fairy tale at the city theater, we are talking about a theater where children could play themselves. Adults were only allowed to move sets, turn the lights on and off, or clean the toilets. They were really only allowed to play if there was an adult in the play.
He managed the theater, which still exists today for 15 years and wrote and directed more than 40 plays, for which he always designed and built the stage sets as well. For this I received the cultural promotion award of the city of Würzburg in 1997.
The plays that were performed there were mostly exclusively world premieres and even then did not care about the latest trends, were timeless, yet always current and refreshingly uneducational. A very fruitful collaboration developed with Wolfgang Salomon and other European musicians such as Lars Hollmer from Sweden or Michel Berckmans from Belgium.
In 2000 Thomas switched to film, where he started as a rookie from scratch again and worked with directors such as Werner Herzog, Simon Verhoeven and Dimitri Tsintsadze, with whom he made two films as Co Author and dialog director on set. "Gun Shy" - best film in San Sebastian and "Invasion" - honorable mention in Montreal. In 2005 he founded his own production company superNeun, produced and directed several films, followed by his first children's film in 2014, which is now considered a classic and has won numerous awards and been shown at more than 50 festivals, including the A-festivals (German FFA listed) Giffoni, Chicago, Zlin and as the opening film in Busan.
