About CB

I'm writer and narrative designer working across multiple media including games, comics, audio and prose. I've just taken up a role as Senior Narrative Designer with Sony VR based at the London Studio. Prior to this I worked as Scriptwriter and Narrative Designer with To Play For, Guy Gadney's new company, helping develop their new interactive storytelling platform. Between 2015 and 2017 I was in-house Narrative Designer with the game developer, book and comic publisher Rebellion. I've previously written for Rebellion's imprint Abaddon Books, contributing the novella 'Dead Kelly' to the collection 'Journal of the Plague Year' (2014). In the past I've written for the Doctor Who and Highlander ranges published by the British company Big Finish under license from the BBC and MGM/Davis-Panzer respectively. My short fiction won the first Pulp Idol award, jointly conferred by SFX Magazine and Gollancz Publishing. I've previously worked as a freelance narrative designer for Sony, and contributed journalism to The Guardian and magazines such as Edge, Develop, RetroGamer and the online version of Starburst. My novel 'Sinbad and the Warriors of Forever' was published in 2014 by the small US publisher Airship 27, as was my comic 'The Cold War' for DC Thomson. My forthcoming work includes a comic story for 2000AD, short fiction for the American pulp publisher Moonstone, and 'Fantastic Transmedia', a book about science fiction and fantasy transmedia storytelling for Palgrave-Macmillan. In fact, I've written and presented extensively on the subject of transmedia storytelling in a variety of academic and non-academic contexts. I've taught creative writing, transmedia storytelling, narrative design for games and related subjects at institutions such as King's College, London, the University of Western Sydney, London South Bank University and Bournemouth University.

Unique traits: VR storytelling; narrative design skills; transmedia, shared storyworlds and licensed experience with key franchises including Doctor Who, Judge Dredd, Highlander, Sniper Elite.
