SYNOPSIS:

During the Iraq war, thieves break into the National Museum in Bagdad and steal an ancient Sumerian clay tablet. In Manhattan, the TV news shows a storm in the Caribbean. SUSAN FERRARA, a NYC detective, overhears a man talking about an artifact to be sold at a Christie’s auction. Her boss, a older DEPUTY CHIEF, tells her to ignore it but she confides in her partner, BILL JONES, and her wife, JANE.

Susan argues with MARIE GILBERT, the director of Christie’s, who insists the tablet came from a dealer. Susan tells her chief the tablet is stolen but he dismisses her.

Thieves steal an antique painting from a La Guardia cargo bin. Susan’s assigned the case. She finds a fingerprint from JOHNNY RIZZO but he’s an authorized airline employee so she can’t charge him. Rizzo tells VINCENT MARINO, a mob boss, about Susan. Marino sideswipes her on a highway but she isn’t hurt.

Gale force winds lash Puerto Rico.

At an auction, the mayor, JOHN ANDREWS, meets Marie. After he grabs her, she slaps him. The next day, he discovers she’s been taking bribes and using the money to pay her mother’s nursing home bill. He tells Marie that he wants part of the money and he wants her. She agrees to pay him but stalls him on the rest.

Marino and his men watch Susan’s house. They kidnap Jane after she tells Marino that Susan knows about the stolen tablet. Marino leaves a ransom note.

The storm is off Florida.

Susan finds the note, ID’s Marino, then takes a squad to his warehouse. A gun fight starts. Marino’s henchman holds Jane and threatens to shoot her. Susan puts down her M16 but has a handgun behind it. She shoots the henchman and Jane runs into her arms. Susan finds the stolen painting and pawn shop invoices.

The storm is now off the Outer Banks.

Susan goes to the pawn shops and finds semi-automatic gun purchases.

In the rug store, she finds guns, photos of the UN, and lists of bomb materials and Middle Eastern names. Susan realizes an attack could be in motion.

Police vans speed to the UN in the middle of the hurricane. Susan and her team kill terrorists on the upper floors but men with machine guns surround dozens of hostages in the main hall.

Susan passes out smoke bombs and they throw them down on the terrorists. Several gunmen push hostages into a back room. Susan and her officers storm the hall, shoot the remaining terrorists, and free the delegates. Susan pipes sleeping gas into the back room and everyone falls asleep. She heads for the basement, finds the bomb, and carries it to the parking garage. As she runs back inside, it explodes, hurling her down a corridor. She is carried away on a stretcher.

A week later, Susan’s arm is in a sling. She interviews Marie Gilbert who confesses, asks for clemency, and is given probation. She interviews the mayor who doesn’t and is arrested.

The tablet goes back to Iraq. Susan and Jane attend the Christie’s auction where they clink flutes with Marie who asks Susan if she wants to help out on a case for the British Museum.

It's an interesting story, but I didn't understand the motives of the terrorists.
