    Under Overpasses (2016)
by Straighline Production Director Under Overpasses is a gritty coming-of-age drama about a group of runaway teens surviving on the streets of a decaying city, bound together by trauma, loyalty, and the search for something resembling family. Living beneath highway overpasses, Crout, Jester, Phox, and Mouse have created their own world-one built on petty crime, dark humor, and shared scars from abusive pasts. When a younger runaway, Bosko, joins their group, he becomes both an outsider and a mirror, forcing each of them to confront what they've lost and what they're becoming. As Bosko is introduced to the harsh realities of street life, tensions rise within the group-especially after a violent encounter reveals just how fragile their moral boundaries truly are. Guided at times by the cryptic words of a street prophet named Socrates, the boys struggle to hold onto their sense of identity in a world that seems determined to erase it. Phox begins forming a mysterious connection with a girl named Layla, who represents hope, escape, and possibly illusion. As police pressure mounts and the group attempts a desperate plan to rescue Crout from detention, everything collapses into tragedy, leaving the survivors fractured and questioning the meaning of freedom, family, and survival. Ultimately, Under Overpasses is a raw exploration of abandoned youth, psychological trauma, and the human need for connection-asking whether true freedom exists outside of society, or only within the people we choose to call family.
