The Service List: NYC

Film
by Cedric Hill (Documentary)
Producer, Director A documentary about the lives of the essential workers America takes for granted. Our culture is so hyper-focused on famous entertainers, on the glamorous lifestyles and personal dramas of over-produced actors. Rarely do we hear stories of the anonymous service workers behind all that glitz and glamour, the unknown workers who make American life possible. Whether it's the Bus Driver who takes pride in getting everyone to work on time, or the Bartender who serves up more comfort than drinks, or the Park Attendant whose smile gives your long commute a pleasant start-The Service List turns the camera on their fascinating lives, chronicles the powerful stories of the essential workers we so often take for granted, and reminds us that everyone has a great story to tell if you're willing to listen. The doctor's confidence starts to falter, however, as the session intensifies and his combative patient takes charge, interspersing vividly descriptive and surprising accounts of her past with perfectly timed personal attacks on her new sparring partner. Even after the doctor seemingly regains control of the session, forcing Dongmei to face some hazy and painful images, it's not unreasonable to expect the tables to be turned again to achieve an unexpected and powerful ending that will leave audiences ...
