Stephen Mendel Bio
Stephen Mendel was born in Montreal Canada, is a dual American/Canadian citizen and speaks fluent French. Perhaps best known for his five seasons (96 episodes) playing Detective Freddie Carson on the CBS hit series “Night Heat” his most recent recurring character, Morris Ginsberg, on “Mad Men” is much more timely.
Stephen has guest starred on many episodic TV shows and in features has played leads with Tom Hanks, Donald and Kiefer Sutherland, Kim Cattrall, Eric McCormack and Tim Matheson to name but a few. Stephen is an accomplished voice over artist: documentaries for Discovery Channel, audio books for Random House, commercials for Nestles, Traveler’s Insurance and the role of Splinter in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles among many others.
He has appeared at the Pasadena Playhouse in “The Foreigner,” at the Morgan-Wixson in “Educating Rita” and at the Odyssey in “After Crystal Night” where he won an outstanding supporting actor award.
Off-stage -camera, he sings and plays the guitar, skis, hikes, bikes, teaches scuba diving (he is an instructor trainer and created an after school program that teaches math and science through a scuba course) and practices the obscure martial art of aki-jutsu.
