Hugo trained in The Netherlands at Stichting Musical Vught under Jacques Noyons. In London he trained at the Miss Saigon Training Scheme with Mary Hammond and Julie Armstrong. Hugo's current vocal coaches are: Kate Young (London) and Dan Lawler (New York)
Hugo further trained at the Impulse Theatre Company under Scott Williams, the leading drama teacher in the Meisner Technique in London. He regularly attends the Elite drop in classes to enhance his skills in this exciting technique.

UK: Most recently appeared as part of the ensemble of On the ropes (Spaced 2014) - an experimental piece of performance art combining deep Meisner improvisations and stage combat. Thomas Ansen in Kingdom Come (The Actors Centre), Martin Wickerwall in Money (The Space), Man in I am yours now (The Lord Stanley & The Space, Docklands), General Lin Zexu in Steampunk Opium wars (National Maritime Museum), Roger Hardy in Woodpeckers and Barry Manilow (The Cornerhouse), Xang in Branded (Old Vic Theatre), Trev in Laters (Tristan Bates Theatre), Cheng in Privates on parade (Jermyn Street Theatre). Hugo created the role of Kegs in the London premiere on Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party (Riverside Studios). Aubery in Everybody wants to be Bette Davis (Marlborough Theatre, Brighton). He also created the part of Harry in Bet she's not your girlfriend! (White Bear Theatre). Aaron in Live with somebody you love (Bridewell Theatre), Emilio in Working (Hendon Hall), Ru in Merrily we roll along (Mermaid Studio Theatre).

Hugo has also been active as a background supporting actor and can be seen in Holby City (BBC), Family Affairs (Five), Jonathan Creek (BBC) and MIT (ITV). He has featured as a pillow fighting Santa in a Swatch Internet viral. His feet can be seen in Batman Begins and he flashes past the camera in Basic Instinct 2. At least he was seen in full! He recently filmed his first docu-drama Seconds from disaster - JAL123 in which he appeared as an Air Traffic controller. He can also be seen in Sweets, cakes and monsters in the role of Chen.
In 1995, Hugo received the DQ award for contribution to Musical Theatre. He also received the 2012 Solo Festival Award for 'Most Potential Act'
He appeared in a documentary on the Miss Saigon Training Scheme for Japanese Television. He has danced in various dance festivals in The Netherlands and has sung in Church Choirs where he appeared as a featured soloist on many occasions.
Hugo is the UK representative of the Dutch production company Don Quichotte Productions and was Associate Director on the Meijerijse Instellingen voor Kunsteducatie end of year student production.
He is also the Director of You Blinked Productions and has formed a partnership with Paula D'Alessandris from Mind The Gap Theatre in New York to co-produce work in both New York and London.
