SYNOPSIS:
Set in 1943 Warsaw, this poignant and inspiring tale follows Yossel, a timid yet lovable 14-year-old whose dreams of becoming a superhero fuel his prodigious gift as an artist. When his family is forced into the Warsaw Ghetto, Yossel joins the underground resistance — the ŻOB (Jewish Combat Organization) — and evolves into an unlikely yet compelling hero.
Using his artistic talent, Yossel earns the trust of German soldiers by sketching portraits for them to send home to their families. Through this deception, he gains access to German headquarters and plants the explosives that ignite a fierce and bloody retaliation — the historic Warsaw Uprising — transforming the timid, submissive boy into a brave, battle-hardened warrior and, ultimately, the superhero he had always dreamed of becoming.
Adapted from the Eisner Award–nominated DC graphic novel Yossel by graphic artist Joe Kubert, this screenplay blends vivid characterization, sharp dialogue, and pulse-pounding action. Interweaving Yossel’s superhero fantasies with the brutal realities of the Holocaust, it delivers a heart-rending journey of courage, loss, and the unbreakable will to survive.
The feature length screenplay for Yossel is complete and available upon request.
