Nick McCallum

Nick McCallum has extensive experience as a Production Designer designing Feature Films, Television Drama and Theatre Productions across Australia and throughout the world; working in China, Poland, France, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea, Spain, Switzerland and Germany.
Nick designed James Cameron's SANCTUM and BAIT 3D - Australia’s first 3D Action Adventure Feature Films. Produced by Cameron, SANCTUM, starring Ioan Gruffudd, Rhys Wakefield and Richard Roxburg, is set entirely in a flooding cave environment built at the Warner Roadshow studios on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
BAIT 3D, starring Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Lincoln Lewis, Phoebe Tonkin and Sharni Vinson, is also set entirely in the Warners studio - with Nick designing a purpose built flooded supermarket and car park after a tsunami traps shoppers below ground with a pack of ferocious tiger sharks.
Nick’s previous studio designs have replicated war torn East Timor, Borneo, W.W.2
PNG, 1860’s London, Santa Barbara California, Mexico, contemporary and period
Australia and futuristic visions of the years 2500 and 3000.
His Feature Film Production Design credits include THE BLACK BALLOON starring
Toni Collette, KOKODA, GETTIN’ SQUARE starring Sam Worthington, Timothy
Spall and David Wenham, THE CLINIC, SUBDIVISION with Gary Sweet, Steve
Bisley and Bruce Spence, THE NUGGET starring Eric Bana, THE GODDESS OF 1967
with Rose Byrne and IN A SAVAGE LAND starring Rufus Sewell and Martin
Donovan.
Television Production Designs include ANSWERED BY FIRE with David Wenham,
Bryce Courtenay's THE POTATO FACTORY, starring Ben Cross and Lisa McCune and the
internationally successful SPELLBINDER series, starring Ryan Kwanten, shot throughout Poland and China.
Theatre design credits include Australia’s Entertainment Centre tour of GREASE, THE
ARENA SPECTACULAR with John Farnham, Craig McLachlan, Natalie
Bassingthwaighte & Magda Szubanski.
Nick’s Theatre acting credits with the Chichester Festival Theatre company include
CYRANO DE BERGERAC starring Keith Michell and Christopher Cazanove and
directed by Jose Ferrer, Ibsen’s ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE with Donald Sinden and
directed by Patrick Garland MADE IN HEAVEN starring Patrick Macnee and Michael
Bates and OTHELLO starring Topol and Keith Michell.
Nick has twice been nominated for Australia’s top film award, the AFI AWARD for
Best Production Design for a Feature Film – ( In a Savage Land, Getting’ Square)
and twice nominated for Inside Film IF Award for Best Production Design for a
Feature Film – ( Kokoda, The Black Balloon) .
Nick holds both Australian and British citizenship.
