THE WRONG HOUSE - (PILOT)

THE WRONG HOUSE - (PILOT)
By B. E. Davis

GENRE: Drama, Comedy
LOGLINE:

When a scam home-share listing leaves a stranger legally squatting in her living room, a frazzled nonprofit director is forced into a weeklong odd-couple arrangement that tangles her family, her HOA, and her sanity.

SYNOPSIS:

Judy Ruiz, a nonprofit director juggling single motherhood and burnout, returns home to find a stranger—Dean Kapur—lounging on her couch with takeout. Dean insists he booked Judy’s house on a home-share app. His receipt looks legitimate… except Judy never listed her house. Soon the police, her HOA president, and her vlogging daughter Maya are all involved. Judy realizes the “host” of the fake listing is none other than her ex-husband Evan, who used Judy’s name, face, and house to create a side hustle.

Unable to boot Dean immediately, Judy is stuck with him for seven days until the “receipt pending” clears. Dean, ever charming and irritating, inserts himself into Judy’s chaotic life—fixing her printer, helping Maya with her scholarship video, and attempting to placate the HOA with muffins. Judy resists but slowly begins to soften.

The pilot sets up an ensemble comedy: Judy, the pragmatic but overcapacity mom; Dean, the disaster-adjacent squatter with unexpected heart; Maya, the sarcastic but ambitious daughter; and Mr. Cho, the relentless HOA president who enforces bylaws like commandments. Recurring arcs include Judy’s battles with Evan’s ongoing scams, Maya’s journey toward independence, Dean’s attempts to prove he’s not just chaos, and the evolving “family” that forms inside The Wrong House.

Thematically, the show explores identity, trust, and the absurdities of modern community—how strangers can become family, and how family can sometimes feel like strangers. It’s fast-paced, sharp, and heartfelt, with clear episodic engines (each week new “guests,” HOA conflicts, or platform fiascos keep the chaos alive).

Think Schitt’s Creek meets Only Murders in the Building—a suburban neighborhood comedy with bite, warmth, and endless story potential.
