In a remote Colorado town when a gifted teenage musician with fatal kidney disease finds her last hope for a transplant fading, her family's fragile world is upended by a mysterious stranger whose own tragic past may hold the key to her survival.
SYNOPSIS:
Seventeen-year-old MELODIE is a gifted musician whose world has shrunk to the size of a dialysis machine. While she waits for a life-saving kidney transplant, her creative spirit is suffocated not only by her illness but by the chaos of her home life. Her mother, ISABELLA, silently battles undiagnosed bipolar disorder, trapping them both in a volatile cycle of manic cleaning and debilitating depressive episodes that leaves Melodie feeling utterly alone.
Their fractured world is pierced by the arrival of JAMES, a 22-year-old drifter haunted by the suicide of his fiancée. He has come to this small mountain town to find an end to his grief.
A hesitant connection sparks between Melodie and James, ignited by a shared love for music in a forgotten school gymnasium. Their songwriting becomes a mirror, reflecting their internal battles and forging a bond of profound, shared vulnerability. For James, the connection deepens into a painful necessity; in Isabella’s volatile behavior, he recognizes the same desperate struggles that consumed his fiancée, compelling him to intervene in a way he never could before.
As Melodie’s health deteriorates and her time runs out, a startling possibility emerges: James may have the solution but at a terrible personal loss.
