About Edmon

I am Edmon Roch, born in 1970 in Girona, Catalonia, Spain, where my passion for cinema was ignited by frequent trips to the movies with my parents, sparking a lifelong love for storytelling. I pursued journalism and art history at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and earned a diploma in film production from the London Film School in 1995. My early career included serving as press chief for the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival from 1987 to 1992 and working as a film critic for publications like Guía del Ocio and Fantastic Magazine.

I began my production career in 1994, contributing to films like Barcelona and The Last Days of Disco (1998), directed by Whit Stillman, as well as The Butterfly Effect (1995) by Fernando Colomo. I also wrote screenplays for Tic Tac (1997) and Mia Sarah (2006) and served as production manager on Seven Years in Tibet (1997). In 2004, I founded Ikiru Films, named after Akira Kurosawa’s inspiring film Ikiru, reflecting my belief that cinema gives meaning to life.

Through Ikiru, I’ve produced notable films like Garbo: The Spy (2009), a documentary about WWII spy Juan Pujol Garcia, which I also directed, Biutiful (2010), directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, and El Niño (2014), a critically acclaimed thriller. My work spans diverse genres, from animation like Tad, the Lost Explorer (2012) and Capture the Flag (2015) to dramas like Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006). I’m particularly proud of Garbo: The Spy for its historical significance and kTad, the Lost Explorer for its surprising success as a family-friendly animated hit. My career reflects my commitment to creating meaningful cinema, a passion I continue to pursue through new projects at Ikiru Films.
